Stitcher Unveils Offline Mode
|
Stitcher Radio, a San Francisco-based company that provides on-demand news, entertainment, sports and talk radio, said in a press release that it has updated its iOS app to include a host of major features.
Most prominently, the app’s new “offline mode” would enable “anytime, anywhere listening” on iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad, regardless of whether the wireless devices or smartphones are in “airplane mode.”
The company cited a recent survey of listeners which found that “38% prefer offline listening to protect against potential mobile data overages,” the release said.
“Our goal is to make on-demand radio more accessible than ever,” said CEO Noah Shanok in a statement. “Our most requested feature, offline mode, solves the biggest obstacle to listening on-the-go or when users would prefer to use Wi-Fi and conserve mobile data usage.”
Other improvements include easier sharing on Facebook, improved searching, usability improvements and crash fixes.
Stitcher says it provides more than 10,000 shows and live stations, with customized recommendations based on a listener’s activity. Stitcher is integrated with select Ford, GM and BMW vehicles and has been downloaded more than seven million times, the company said.
