Broadcasters Benefit Kids
The October issue of the NAB’s Licensed to Serve newsletter has arrived in the in-box and with it more stories of how radio broadcasters help their communities.
Children’s hospitals are the recipients of several recent efforts. In Chicago, Hubbard’s WTMX(FM) chalked up over $1.4 million in a 14-hour radiothon with local celebrities, sports figures and businesses. The 14th annual Eric and Kathy Radiothon raised the money to support the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. All told, the radiothon has raised over $23 million in total over the years.
And speaking of children’s hospitals, St. Judes was the beneficiary of two radiothons. In Dallas, Univision Radio’s KLNO(FM) collected $762,000. In Liberty, N.Y. WDNB(FM), a Bond Gold-owned station, collected more than $38,000 in its third annual Country Cares for St. Jude’s Kids Radiothon.
In Philadelphia CBS Radio’s WIP(FM) worked with the Philadelphia Eagles to score $183,000 the Eagles Youth Partnership, a youth support program.
In Milwaukee three stations from three different broadcast companies teamed up for an anti-violence campaign. Saga Communications’ WJMR(FM), Clear Channel’s WKKV(FM) and Courier Communications’ WNOV(AM) created the “Urban Radio United for Peace” PSA project.
