“Cool Stuff”: ENCO Systems ENCO1
|

One in a series about the
recipients of the 2012 Radio World “Cool Stuff” Award.
“Replace 50 rack units of gear
with two servers and a switch.”
So says ENCO of its “virtualized” automation system ENCO1, intended as a
departure from the traditional model used by radio broadcasting.
It uses two
specialized servers designed around a unique specification for the radio IT
environment, creating a redundant physical environment. Inside, ENCO has
created a series of virtual machines that represent your station, or several
stations. The company promises that this approach increases efficiency and
decreases installation time and costs. See a video explaining the concept in
detail at the ENCO website.
The package (servers, software licenses, thin
clients, network switches) goes for $7,995 per seat and is currently available
in configurations of four to 20 seats.
