Salem Starts Apps Avalanche

04.29.2010

Why launch one app when you can launch 57 apps?

National broadcaster Salem Communications, with stations in most of the top 25 markets, is launching 57 mobile apps for the iPhone and BlackBerry mobile platforms.

The free apps will be aimed at supporting local Salem radio stations in their markets. Each app will offer the typical artist and music information, station goodies such as video snippets and podcasts and other features such as, when possible, song lyrics.

The apps were developed with AirKast, a digital content and application developer. The apps will use AirKast's AirBridge platform and the company's TuneKast application.

Salem is finalizing the acquisition of other stations and working with AirKast on creating apps for stations not yet appified.

Senior Vice President and General Manager, Salem Web Network, Tom Perrault stated: "Our entire company is eager to see the continued growth of our radio stations via mobile apps in the coming years."
