“Social networking.” It’s one of the buzz terms of the decade.

For a little break from radio news, here’s the top 10 ways mobile users can better protect themselves, according to JuiceCaster, a network that lets members share content via cell phones.

  1. Don’t give out your password: Even your closest friends can “hack” your life to pieces.

  2. Don’t rely on your mobile number as your password: You will just make yourself an easy target for vengeful exes or any jokester you may have given your number to in the past.

  3. Know your friends: Just because they live in the same area code doesn’t mean they have to be in your network.

  4. Don’t let videos and photos terrorize your future: Say yes to fun and no to trashy; the world is watching.

  5. Know your blog audience: If the boss is a friend maybe you shouldn’t post funny office pranks all day (even if the rest of us will enjoy it).

  6. Remember, it’s a mobile phone, not your online blog: Nobody wants to watch your 15-minute rants on their phone

. Keep it short, fun and entertaining.

  7. Just say no to creeps: Get to know the out-of-state stranger a little more before you hand over your mobile number and open yourself up to harassing messages and calls.

  8. Mobile stalking: Report bullies or stalkers to the network moderator or flag their profile; these losers aren’t worth replying to and can often be blocked or removed from the system entirely if acting inappropriately.

  9. Too old for school: Teachers, don’t befriend a student. Leads to awkward parent/teacher night.

  10. Don’t get hooked: Use your mobile network to supplement your life, not replace it. A little space from Second Life will do your real life good!
