The RadioDNS project, an effort to plan for and take advantage of the convergence between broadcast and Internet technologies, is moving forward.

RadioDNS, which was explained in the June issue of the international edition of Radio World, seeks to create and embeddable pseudo-domain that can connect a radio station across its various platforms — analog, digital and online.

COMMENTS (2) Nick Piggott - 06/24/2009 Dennis - thanks for your comments. As RadioDNS is an open, community-led project, it's up to the broadcasters to set the rules for entry. In that respect, we hope it will become as trusted (if not more so) than the existing directory provides, in indeed, hopefully become a useful "upstream" source of data for them. RadioDNS only acts as a simple standardised bridge between broadcast and IP, and as such doesn't directly impact streaming radio stations at all. Once RadioDNS has translated a set of DAB, RDS or HD codes into a canonical domain name it's job is done, and all the control immediately passes to the owner of that domain. RadioDNS - making your radio more intelligent, only if the RadioDNS owners want that, they could also make your radio "dumb", and not let it find your station. RadioDNS could be a great way to censor online radiostations, for those who love that. :-/ It's better solution to have a radio which use several of the other "RadioDNS", like Shoutcast, Recieva and others, and not be dependent on only one, lke this "RadioDNS".
