Rolls-Royce Makes HD Radio Standard in 2010 Models

More automakers are making HD Radio receivers standard in their dashboards.

Rolls-Royce will integrate HD Radio Technology as a standard feature across its 2010 model series. Mercedes-Benz has expanded the availability of factory-installed HD Radio technology in its premium feature packages.

These two announcements follow similar news from Jaguar, BMW and Volvo. Including Rolls-Royce, nine automakers offer factory-installed HD Radio technology as standard or an option: BMW, Hyundai, Jaguar, Mercedes, Mini, Scion, Land Rover and Volvo. Five others have committed to offering HD Radio Technology including Audi, Ford, Kia, Lincoln and Mercury.

Ibiquity Digital COO Jeff Jury called the Rolls Royce brand "revered" and said the addition of Rolls-Royce to the HD Radio roster "solidifies the technology's stature in the luxury automotive class."

Rolls-Royce of North America offered HD Radio technology in its vehicles as standard equipment in late 2007.

Mercedes-Benz has expanded its HD Radio receiver offerings in its 2010 models equipped with the brand's premium feature packages. Currently, five of the newest Mercedes-Benz models offer HD Radio Technology as part of a premium features package and five more models will have HD Radio Technology as standard equipment (CL, CLS, G, S, and SLK).
