On July 7, the
Radio Adventurers of Maine will “reactivate” amateur radio station W1A, at the
original Andover, Maine satellite facility that received the initial signal
from the Telstar satellite 50 years to that day in 1962.
Telstar was the first commercial satellite and its success
ushered in the modern, worldwide communications revolution.
Several local ham groups will be involved. Information can be received from
K1WTX, Waxman@megalink.net. No word on whether a Tornados cover band
will be present to provide musical accompaniment.
