Clear Channel Seeks ‘Emerging Companies’

Heads up, emerging
business owners: Joe Robinson might be calling.
The
latest addition at Clear Channel Media & Entertainment corporate is a “veteran
venture investor.” Robinson comes aboard with the title of executive vice president of strategic development, a new position.
The mandate: to identify “acquisition, equity and partnership opportunities in
emerging, high-growth companies.”
He’ll report to Chairman/CEO
Hogan, who in the announcement refers to “untapped opportunity” in such firms.
Robinson
started Halo Venture Partners, a private VC invetor in digital media,
advertising and media-related tech companies; he remains managing partner.
According to his bio, investments there included Spongecell.com, iWin.com and Heartbeat.com.
CC said his “founding investment successes” also include
Scout Media, a sports social network sold to Fox for $56 million; UGO Networks, an
advertising network sold to Hearst for $80 million; and Signalray Media
Consulting Group. He co-founded InterWorld Corp., an e-commerce
application developer and solutions provider, which went public in the late
1990s.
CC says it aims to find technologies that will help
with its distribution, digital and content offerings, plus opportunities “within
other categories such as entertainment and consumer products.” It envisions Robinson working in coordination with Brian Lakamp,
president of digital, and Tim Castelli, president of national sales, marketing
& partnerships.
