The FCC is planning a public forum to explain how the agency will process pending FM translator applications from Auction 83 as well as pending and prospective FM translator modifications. The FM translator processing changes are part of the low-power FM proceeding.

As the agency grapples with implementing the Local Community Radio Act, it has placed caps on the number of the some 6,500 pending FM translator applications that any one single entity can hope to have processed, both nationwide and in a particular market.

The meeting is at the commission headquarters on May 16 at 2 p.m. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis and the event will also be streamed over the Internet.

Audio Division staff expected to participate include Chief Peter Doyle, Deputy Chief Jim Bradshaw, Deputy Chief Legal Tom Hutton and Assistant Chief Kelly Donohue.

Topics to be discussed include a summary of the recent Reports and Orders, the LPFM grid tool and the processing differences between spectrum limited and spectrum available markets.
