Market research firm Juniper Research has issued a report on “in-app”/mobile device ad spending predicting that it will rise from an expected $2.4 billion this year to over $7 billion by 2015.

Entitled “Mobile Advertising, Messaging, In-App and Mobile Internet Strategies 2012–2017,” the report, not surprisingly, expects that app and mobile device usage will increase greatly, driving ad sales. The study focuses on the U.S, U.K. and Canada.

The report offers “critical” lessons for marketers using mobile such as creating ad materials that work on mobile devices. It also notes that competition on mobile devices will be heavy, further demanding well-made and attention-grabbing ads. A number of market and technology trends are predicted as well.

The report’s author Charlotte Miller stated, “Mobile advertising gives marketers the chance to reach consumers on a more personal level than any other type of advertising. Creating immersive and entertaining experiences to attract the attention of the consumer is essential for marketers wanting to take advantage of the massive increase in app usage.”
