Ramping Up, Prometheus Seeks Donations

group the Prometheus Radio Project is pitching its supporters for donations as
it ramps up its plan to help get more low-power FM stations on the air.
In anticipation of FCC action this Friday — when the
commission is expected to announce rules for the next round of LPFM
applications — Prometheus wrote that its average cost of supporting groups
through the process is $1,500 per group; and Prometheus wants to help put 1,000
new stations on the air.
“It’s been a 12-year fight to
arrive at this moment, and together, we’ve won it,” writes Prometheus.
“But our biggest job is still ahead. As we lead the way
towards the largest expansion of community radio in U.S. history, Prometheus
will be helping hundreds of groups through the license application process.”
The solicitation is signed, “Electromagnetically yours … Prometheus
Staff and Board.”
The group also is hiring; it is advertising for an IT manager, a position that pays $21,000 and involves 24 hours a week.
