WBGU College DJ Wins IRF Best U.S./Canada Music Show Contest
The International Radio Festival named Brody Ramone as the winner of the 2013 Best US/Canada College DJ Competition.
Ramone is a DJ for WBGU(FM), Bowling Green, Ohio, a noncommercial, college radio station on the campus of Bowling Green State University. The format is independent, underground music.
Brody Ramone began as a DJ at WBGU two years ago and is now one of the station’s co-Music Directors. She produces and hosts the indie show, “Dirty Glitter,” which is in regular rotation on Thursdays 9 p.m.–midnight Eastern. She is a marketing major.
Brody will present her show at the 4th Annual IRF, which takes place Sept. 4–8 at the Schloss Sihlberg in Zurich.
The contest partner is iBiquity Digital, and media partners are CMJ and Mixcloud.com. The judges received a total of more than 75 entries from the U.S. and Canada via mixcloud.com. Applicants were asked to upload one of their radio shows to demonstrate their skill, personality and musical knowledge.
IRF co-Founder Darryl von Daniken called Ramone’s “Dirty Glitter” a “great example of the fresh music shows that the IRF likes to showcase.”
IBiquity said WBGU will receive a free license to use its HD Radio technology and pegged the value of the license at $10,000. The facility will also be able to upgrade their equipment.
