National Public Radio has a new chief fundraiser.

Monique Hanson, currently senior vice president and chief development officer for YMCA of the USA, will take the position as the broadcaster’s chief development officer.

Her new job begins in October and she reports directly to new NPR President/CEO Gary Knell.

Hanson will lead NPR’s fundraising programs, including major and planned giving, and foundation grants.

Hanson was recruited to the YMCA in 2004 to increase contributed revenue and reposition the national corporate and foundation profile; the YMCA is a $5 billion nonprofit serving 21 million members through 2,700 locations.

Prior to the YMCA, Hansen was senior director of development for the Alzheimer’s Association. She has also held fundraising positions with Roosevelt University, Milwaukee Repertory Theater and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.
