"Cool Stuff" Award
For Technical Advancement of IBOC DAB:

Broadcast Electronics Inc.
Harris Corp.
Nautel Ltd.

Honorary "Cool Stuff" Award:

Steve Hemphill, 1946 GE Model BT-11-B 10-Watt Transmitter Replica

"This award is given each year by a panel of anonymous judges who have extensive experience in radio broadcast engineering," said Radio World Editor Paul McLane. "Among the many new products on the convention floor this year, these three manufacturers invested significant space and time to IBOC equipment. Clearly they have committed important resources to exploring digital radio.

"IBOC earned a tremendous amount of attention at the show," McLane said. "It is one of the most important technical decisions our industry will ever make, and many questions about its implementation will be answered in coming months. Regardless of how the rollout proceeds, our judges felt that the companies taking the lead in bringing IBOC to market deserved their recognition."

IBOC DAB is a method of transmitting digital audio signals to radio receivers for improved performance on the AM and FM bands, with the added promise of new wireless services.

Also among the winners was a special honorary "Cool Stuff" Award for Steve Hemphill for his replica of a 1946 GE Model BT-11-B 10-Watt Transmitter.

Radio World is the newspaper for radio station managers and engineers. Published in Falls Church, Va., it is celebrating its 25th anniversary and is part of a family of 18 titles from IMAS Publishing Co., including TV Technology, Pro Audio Review, AudioMedia and Broadcast and Production.
