| Chuck Leavens, Marty Bloss to Receive APRE Engineering Awards |

Chuck Leavens and Marty Bloss are the recipients of the 2008 Engineering Achievement Award from the Association of Public Radio Engineers.
Leavens, director of engineering and information technology management at WDUQ(FM) in Pittsburgh, will be feted during the annual Engineering Dinner. Nominators credited Leavens for maintaining a listserv for pubcast engineers.
Bloss will be presented with the APRE Meritorious Service Award for his role as director of technology for the Public Radio Satellite System. He’s credited with shepherding the ContentDepot satellite distribution system now in use by public radio stations to deliver real-time and file-based audio programming. He worked with equipment vendors, software integrators, stations, engineers and program producers to champion the system.
The honor is for contributions to the art or science of radio engineering that have benefited the public radio industry.
In 2007, as we told you then, Donald Creighton, senior vice president of technology for Minnesota Public Radio and American Public Media, was honored for his supervision of MPR’s broadcast and production center upgrade. Also chosen in 2007 were Richard Cassidy, director of IT and New Media for WAMU(FM), Washington, and the late Wayne Hetrich, both among NPR’s 30 original employees in 1971.
In 2006 Roger Karwoski, assistant manager/director of engineering, KBIA(FM), Columbia, Mo., received the award for long service to public radio.
