BE said 300 broadcasters from Brazil turned out for an event it sponsored along with Ibiquity during the NAB Show.
Hélio Costa, the country’s minister of communications, “spoke optimistically of the future of radio in general and HD Radio technology in particular,” Broadcast Electronics stated.
“Costa spoke encouraging words about digital radio, telling those at the breakfast that he expects Brazil to establish a digital standard for AM and FM, most likely based on ‘in-band’ technology, by the end of the year,” according to the manufacturer’s summary.
“BE has installed HD Radio systems for all major broadcast groups in the country in the past three years,” it stated. “HD Radio is now heard in Brazil’s three major cities, and is gaining acceptance in smaller markets.” Costa is an advocate of digital radio.
The breakfast was held in cooperation with the AESP, an association of broadcasters based in São Paulo.
