GSS says approximately 85 broadcasters in seven states and the District of Columbia now have partnered with Alert FM, the company’s FM-based digital alert and messaging system that allows government officials to create and send emergency info.
The single-point-to-multi-point communication system uses RBDS technology on the FM broadcasting network.
Global Security Systems also said it supports the First Responders Broadcasters Act, a bill that is in committee. “This act, if passed, will ensure that broadcasters have access to information during times of crisis while critical resources — fuel and other operating assets — are protected from seizure by FEMA.”
It reiterated that NAB and the Association for Maximum Service Television are backing RBDS technology and urging the FCC to consider using the technology for distributing warnings to mobile phones. “FM-radio-based alert delivery technologies are consistent with, and not outside the scope of, the WARN (Warning Alert and Response Network) Act, which allows commercial mobile service providers to elect to transmit Cellular Mobile Alert System (CMAS) alerts,” GSS sated.
