RTÉ Trials DAB in Cork, Limerick

03.25.2008

Irish public-service broadcaster RTÉ last week announced the extension of its digital radio trail service to Cork and Limerick cities. This move means that 44% of the Irish population now has access to digital radio.

RTÉ Radio began testing a DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) radio service in the Greater Dublin and North East Coast area in March 2007. Listeners in that area and in Cork and Limerick cities can tune to seven RTÉ digital radio services; a kids-only radio service, a non-stop news headline service, two speech services and three music-only services.

The new DAB services are on trial until November 2008, and RTE expects to further expand its digital radio network during 2009.
