DRM Announces Chair Change

04.08.2008

Following the retirement of Peter Senger, a senior BBC World Service official has taken over as the new chair of the DRM Consortium.

During its biennial elections, held this year in Bonn, Germany, DRM Consortium members unanimously chose Ruxandra Obreja, controller of business development at the BBC World Service, as new chair of both the DRM Consortium and DRM Association.

According to Obreja, DRM is on the "threshold" of a new era. "Thanks to the brilliant work of our technical colleagues over the past 10 years, the DRM standard is now mature. The challenge for all of us is to ensure that, in the next few years, the DRM standard is taken up on a mass scale," she said.

After 10 years as chairman of DRM, Senger stood down both from the Consortium and from his position as a director at German international broadcaster, Deutsche Welle.

DRM Consortium members also elected two new vice chairmen: Jochen Huber of German transmission technology specialist Transradio SenderSysteme and Giuseppe Allamano of Italian public broadcasting transmission services provider RAI Way.
