Neural-THX, VoiceAge Go Mobile With Surround

01.17.2008

Neural Audio and codec maker VoiceAge released mobile audio compression technology called Neural-AMR-WB+ upgraded with Neural-THX Surround.

Capable of delivering surround sound content at bitrates lower than 72 kbps, they said, the system allows next-generation mobile services and devices to deliver TV-like high-quality surround sound content at low bitrates.

Using this technology, the companies say, LBR surround-encoded content can be played back in stereo through headphones or speakers, and in full surround sound using a Neural-THX Surround home or car entertainment system, depending on the capabilities of the receiving system.

Neural-THX has also branched out into gaming. The companies, along with Sierra Entertainment, said the Radical Entertainment game Prototype would be the first video game to feature Neural-THX Surround.

Neural-THX said its technology enables its surround sound to be extended from 5.1 to 7.1 when encoded and received on an audio-video receiver, allowing a richer listening environment.
